| Hi All,
I don't update this often, and I know that some people wish I would more.... I guess part of the reason is that the group of people that are likely to read this are also the same people who I tend to have dialogues with on a reasonably regular basis anyway, so I don't really know what new things I would add by writing stuff here that I wouldn't or don't say anyway....
But in a way, that's just an excuse, and reading it, I realise a pretty lame one at that. I guess more of it is about me being a fairly private person at heart, and while I can be very open at times, I'm often very careful about what I say and when/how I say it. The legacy of my upbringing, and having gone through my fair share of betrayals and disappointments. But that's all largely past now, and I feel like I've changed and grown past a lot of that, so I don't really want to dwell too much there. Get me in a suitably mellow mood and I'm sure I'll share if you really want to know.
What inspired me to write something now was just sitting back and thinking about how much has changed for me this year. Rose is the obvious part of that to most people, she wrote a ramble about how much I've been a good influence for her and the good things I've done for her, but the same is really true for her effect on me. For a lot of the people who read or are linked to my LJ, they know me (or have got to know me as more than just a passing acquaintance) through my relationship with her, which means they don't know how much her influence upon me has mellowed me out, and just generally made me a lot happier.... I love her for that, and about a million other things that have led us to the point that we're at now.
But it's more than that - meeting her new crowd in Perth, the "extended family" of the Perth crew, the other people that form this curious thing we call an "online community", and it strikes me how much of a great crowd it is... like any crowd, it has its bickering and divisions, its likes and dislikes, its characters and its nobility, but there is a universal bond of friendship and acceptance that is great to find, and even better to be accepted and to feel a part of. I'm flattered and honoured to be a part of that.
All these things make me a much happier person than I have been for a very long time. To Rose, as she already knows, she has given me a much more positive vision of a future that I had once aspired to, but given up on - she reminded me of many things that I had believed right, but had let myself were not true. To my new found friends (particularly Ross, Tiegan and the rest of the Perth crowd) I look forward to the next months and years getting to know you all better, and letting you get to know me better as well, and hopefully sharing lots of fun and crazy experiences (and yes, that means I do want as many of you as possible to get to Sydney!).
To the Perth crew, see you all soon.... to the rest, sometime sooner than later I hope....

| Hi guys.
Tech advice time - I'm looking to get an mp3 player soon, and wanted some ideas and recommendations. Traditionally, I've always liked the Creative players, but the latest evolution of them seem to be getting some distinctly mixed reviews. I want something with reasonable sound quality, about 20GB of data (although really only 10GB is plenty for the stuff I'd put on a player). Don't care too much about included headphone quality (I'll get my own). Mainly want to make sure it's portable and easy to use/transfer/set up and maintain playlists. And I don't want an iPod....
recommendations or experiences you've had with players much appreciated - let the flame wars begin!

| Tagged by Roseychan... I normally avoid these things, but I know what she'll do to me if I don't.... :)
TV meme: So, live action only, no current affairs or news programmes.
1) Total number of shows you watch or have watched regularly:
Don't think there's anything I watch regularly - TV is basically background noise for me these days.
2) Last TV show you either bought on DVD, recorded or downloaded:
Spaced. But I got that through the charity of others really... The new Dr Who episodes will prolly be the next one (looks at Yasminm plaintively)
3) Your most recent TV addiction:
Can't really remember. I was tuning into Passions while the Timmy and incredibly bad and amusing witchcraft subplots were going on, but I was far from addicted. Dr Who new series could be close to becoming new mandatory viewing... State of Play was probably the last thing I remember making sure I was home to catch all of, do mini-series count?
4) Ten shows you've watched a lot or that mean a lot to you:
In no particular order... although I'm going to show a scary bias for local shows here to alienate any foreigners... :P
- Twin Peaks (Although it jumped the shark pretty badly near the end, I was still addicted. The first series is still some of the best television ever!)
- Yes Minister (Timeless, and still too true...)
- Frontline (Oz Current affairs comedy satire, was absolutely hysterical)
- CNNNN (if only for the newsbar!)
- The Young Ones (It may not have aged as well, but it was bloody funny at the time!)
- Hill St Blues (The template for every cop show since, and still none have got the mix right, although The Bill gets an honourable mention)
- Dr Who (was a childhood addiction, renewed lately with ABC rescreening all the episodes and the new series)
- The Big Gig (Aussie stand up comedy show, memorable for launching an awful lot of good aussie comedians, and even more bad ones!)
- The Simpsons (Because it always there!)
- Black Books (because... well, just because!)
5) Tag 5 people to do this meme:
Well, everyone I'd tag is already covered, so I'll pass on this bit. | comments: 7 comments or Leave a comment |
| Back home now after a truly wonderful time in Perth. Thanks to all the ppls out there who made the trip so wonderful - particularly to Ross for the lift to the airport (you rule!), Tiegan for being the most super hostess in the world and Siska for putting up with an extra body in the house for the weekend.
I miss my cutester soooo much... Things are seriously good - I think I've finally found the person who is right for me. Every time we're together, everything just feels right and makes sense between us. I don't think I've ever felt this comfortable and secure in a relationship - just wish we didn't have to deal with geography, but at least we both have plans to do something about that. Just need to be patient, and make the most of the communication tools we have (and keep an eye out for cheap plane tickets, I know, I'm just too impulsive!).
Going to go nap for a bit - I actually had a middle row to myself on the plane, so got some sleep, but need more. Bookcases arriving this afternoon, yay! can actually finish all my unpacking, although I still need to sell or long term loan my washing machine to someone.... Life is good, although it'd be perfect if Rose was here to snuggle with right now... | comments: Leave a comment |

| Mmmmm..... Fast ADSL Connections.... :) Now I just hope my phone doesn't die again.... and I wish I could figure out why I can't get to my IP address for my web/VPN server. But.... fast ADSL is nice!
Missing my Cutester a lot (she'll kill me for that, but I owe her for the "Much Older Man" comment!). Not long now though, we'll manage. Can't wait to be there though, distance is such a pain!
Back to unpacking.... bye all!
